IET and Open Access

Transforming research for an Open Science world

The more we share and learn from each other, the faster we can improve the future.

We understand that open research is the key to accelerating research and innovation to solve global challenges fast. The IET has demonstrated a strong commitment to Open Access – providing researchers around the world with access to high quality content and expanding discoverability of Open Access articles.

The growing Open Access movement has led to fundamental changes in existing publication models, with many organisations re-thinking their strategies and process in order to adapt and thrive in the new Open Access world.

“The IET’s mission as a professional and learned society is to disseminate knowledge and continue to support the evolution of engineering and technology with its positive impact on society. By transitioning the IET’s journal portfolio to open access, the IET hopes to broaden the research reach for our global community, helping authors adhere to funder mandates and inspire the publication of excellent research that will lead to exciting innovations to improve societal outcomes.” – Giles Grant, Executive Director of Knowledge Services & Solutions at the IET

Facilitating discoverability of content

Inspec accelerates dissemination of open content

Inspec, the IET’s scientific and technical database, facilitates discoverability of Open Access content from trusted sources around the world.

Inspec was an early adopter of indexing Open Access content and now contains over 4 million Open Access records. Approximately a third of all new content indexed in Inspec since 2017 is Open Access. Inspec’s active title list includes over 650 DOAJ-recognised fully Open Access journals, plus many hybrid titles that contain Open Access items.

Inspec has supported open research from its inception, staying up to date with the changing landscape and developing content and functionality to address these needs, including Open Access content from trusted global publishers in our indexing as soon as possible.
